National Baked Alaska Day is July 1st and is dedicated to the famous dessert that combines ice cream and sponge cake, topped with a layer of meringue that is baked until golden brown. This unique dessert is a culinary art and impresses with both its taste and appearance. Baked Alaska was created in the late 19th century. It was named after Alaska in honor of the purchase of this state from Russia. The official version is that the dessert was presented at the Exposition in 1867 to celebrate this purchase. One version is that the dessert was invented by a chef at the Delmonico Hotel in New York. Since then, it has become popular and is often served in restaurants.
